Elisha Clark 1796-1862« Back to Previous Page

I am looking for information on Elisha Clark. He died in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. His tombstone gives his date of birth as Sept. 10, 1796 and death July 2, 1862. Census records show him born in New York. His occupation was shingle maker. His wife passed away before he left New York sometime around 1840. There is a Mary Ann, wife of Elisha Clark buried at Antwerp, Philadelphia in the Quaker Cemetery that may be her. His known children were Henry, who may have been William Henry, born around 1816? Mary Ann, born 1820, married Silas Wood. Silas and Mary Ann and a son were all born in New York according to the 1870 Census Harriet, born 1821, married John Evans. Her marriage license says she was of Evans Mills. Her death certificate says she was born in Evans Mills, NY Louisa, born 1834, married James Gillingham. Her Death Certificate says that she and her father, Elisha, were born in Jefferson Co., New York. Martha, born 1832 married Joseph Camburn Martha and Louisa are with him on the 1850 Wisconsin Census. I have DNA tested his direct Clark descendant and all of his matches go back to a Clark family that came to America and settled in Rhode Island. Rev. Joseph Clarke is the furthest back in this line and he died in Newport, Rhode Island. We have been to your area and things get pretty confusing. There are a few Elisha Clarks buried there but nothing lines up. I found a Jesse Clark that had an Eli born abt 1797 and was pretty sure I had finally found it but records just didn’t work out.
